Artist Statement:
When venturing to Brighton Beach as a tourist to see the colourful beach boxes and you are met with wind and rain and a flock of seagulls. The experience is not what you expect yet it is memory that will stay in the shadows of your mind forever.
This is probably my favourite – love the contrast between what the viewer expected – colour, warmth, sunshine and blue sky. Instead, the viewer experiences “the shadows of nature” – the grey sky, wind, the dark birds and the textures of the beach boxes and the sand is more pronounced.
Yes – that’s what I like. The expectation of the tourists who flock to the Brighton Beach Huts are that of sunny and brightness and yet they got the opposite and STILL enjoyed their experience – but a totally unexpected one!
